The surf-ace cafe

There is only is
And all is this is-ing
Distortion of nothing
And nothing is missing

The this and the that
The there was and will be
Ten thousand cracks
Turn a mirroring sea

On a boat trip from chaos
The One
And the None
Moved to play
Come fading reflections
Rocks, friends and spiders
Floating fellow insiders
To welcome your stay
At the Surf-ace cafe

Each one of them fruit
Grows
Sustains
And decays
A perfect harmonious note
Only echoed in mind
Appears to remain

Keep your hands in the boat!
Let change loose on its way
There is only change
And all is this changing
The rippling surface it glistens
Vibrations arranging
So silence She listens
Ever here, now and unaging

There is only is
And all is this is-ing
Distortion of no-thing
And nothing is missing

the frontier

I got fascinated by fractals, feedback loops and how order arises from chaos. This precipitated the following works. The collage/painting was made by photographing objects held in front of the canvas which were then printed and collaged over the existing image. This was a way to create recursive copies and build a structure and space perhaps akin to the way many systems find form in Nature.

the golf course

The golf course was for some years a theme in much of my work. I had always felt strange when on a golf course. There was something very calming about the simplicity of the game and the neatly kept, wide-open spaces, but also something odd in the modeling of the natural elements to create a game environment, something like virtual reality and the new (at the time) realistic, immersive 3d digital worlds in video games. During these years I was recovering from a dissociative disorder and the fracturing and reconstruction of a stable sense of self and world were taking place in both my art and my mind.
